Description

We made a small collection of oversized, woven cotton shawls in rural West Bengal, India.

The meticulous process starts with raw cotton fiber cleaned and then spun into natural yarns on a wooden spinning wheel called a charkha.

The dyes are AZO-free, and many colors come from 22 shades of natural vegetable dye.

Once the fabric is dyed, the yarn is prepared for the loom. The handloom process of creating the pattens and color combination is slow and meticulous, and each shawl can take a few days.  The looms do not require fuel or electricity, so the products are eco-friendly, and the end product reflects this quality.

The entire process is done in homes or small, local collectives.

Like many LIDO textiles, these shawls are multi-purpose and can be used as a sarong or as a decorative textile draped across a couch or chair.

Fabric: Hand-loomed Cotton

Measurements: 3.5' W x 7' L

Care: Hand or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, hang dry.
